OUR ELDERS & WISDOM KEEPERS
UNCLE ANGAANGAQ
ANGAKKORSUAQ
Kalaallit Elder & Shaman
Born in Greenland in 1947, Angaangaq is a Kalaallit Elder, traditional healer, spiritual teacher, and shaman whose life has been devoted to carrying forward the ancestral wisdom of his people. Raised in a remote Greenlandic village, he was recognized by his grandmother as a bearer of his family’s healing tradition and was guided in the ancient practices of shamanic healing. His mother entrusted him with a profound spiritual mission: “To melt the ice in the heart of man.”
This calling has carried Angaangaq across more than 70 countries, where he shares Indigenous wisdom and speaks on climate change, environmental stewardship, and the rights and traditions of Indigenous peoples. He has represented Arctic communities at the United Nations General Assembly, met with influential world leaders and spiritual figures, and brought his teachings to universities, schools, communities, and institutions around the world.
Rooted in the ancient traditions of the Kalaallit people, Angaangaq’s teachings carry the wisdom of a culture shaped by generations of living in harmony with one of the Earth's most challenging environments. His work reminds us that true transformation begins when we bridge the distance between the mind and the heart, bringing together strength and gentleness, courage and compassion, determination and love.
Through healing circles, seminars, and ceremonies, Angaangaq invites people to soften what has grown hardened within, reconnect with the living world, and rediscover the warmth of the human spirit. His teachings offer a powerful reminder that healing ourselves and healing our world are inseparable.
At Guardians of the Sacred, Angaangaq joins a circle of Elders and Wisdom Keepers carrying ancestral teachings across generations. Through his sacred mission to melt the ice within the human heart, he offers a path toward greater understanding, compassion, and a renewed relationship with one another and Mother Earth.
“The hardest ice to be melted is the one in the heart of Man. Only by melting that
ice, does Man have a chance to change & begin using his knowledge wisely.”
