QUECHUA SEED STEWARD
GUARDIAN OF QUINOA & AMARANTH
SEEDS OF SPIRIT & SCIENCE
ANCESTRAL WISDOM IN SEEDS
Emigdio Ballón, a member of the Quechua Indian culture, was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, where his early years were shaped by the teachings of his grandfather, who guided him in seed saving and the sacred practices of farming.
His academic path carried him into agricultural science, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the Major Bolivian University of Saint Simon, a Master’s degree in Plant Genetics in Colombia, and pursued doctoral studies at Colorado State University. Specializing in quinoa and amaranth, he has published extensively on these crops in both South and North America.
Emigdio’s work has always bridged science and tradition. He served as an organic certification inspector in the United States, studied biodynamics at the Josephine Porter Institute, and presented at agricultural conferences worldwide. His research includes germination techniques for crops ranging from Ayurvedic and Chinese herbs to Indigenous plants of New Mexico.
